|Our mission is to provide a family atmosphere which will allow members of our community to learn to their utmost potential, in a warm, supportive environment. We, the unified Heuvelton community, are dedicated to developing the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for our students to be successful, contributing members of our society.|
Recently the 6th graders have begun reading The Lightning Thief (module 1) in reading class. Students are keeping a daily writing journal that is collected and graded every Friday. I have also attached a Greek Gods project description that has been started in ELA class. This is a collaborative project that incorporates a research social studies piece, a grid drawing in art class of their Greek God/Goddess with an artifact bag, and a technology piece they are working on in Tech class. Please read the attachment of the detailed 4 part requirements for this project. No specific due date has been set as we just started this project this week. A project description is provided for parents to view at the bottom of this webpage under Class Files.
Trip to Boces
Today our students took a culinary field trip to BOCES to link the study of ratios in math to cooking. The students had a wonderful time with Chef Putman and all his student chefs! I think eating their creation of an apple turn over was the highlight!
Classroom Magazine Passcodes
Please check with your child nightly on what homework they have written in their agenda. There is homework beginning today for all subjects. Thank you.
*Regular homework provides opportunities for practice, drill, and the application of skills already learned. In grade 6 this year we will use the following expectations. Students that do not have their assignments completed at the time they are due will receive a 0% for a grade. However, students may (and should) turn in any late assignments and will receive a grade with a 10 point deduction.
It is important that arrangements be made when a student is absent to pick up their assignments in a timely manner. Of course no points will be deducted from absent work.
** No weekend homework will be assigned unless there is back work due.
